Unsubscribing from RSS Feeds Makes Me Feel Dirty Inside
As you might be able to tell from the light amount of posting I’ve done on my blog in recent weeks, I’ve been keeping myself fairly busy.
One thing I try to do, however, is keep up with the latest in the blogosphere using my Google homepage. During this time of increased busyness, however, every time I’d visit some of the tabs on my Google homepage I’d feel somewhat overwhelmed.
This caused me to do something I don’t do much of: unsubscribe from RSS feeds.
In the grand scheme of things this was probably a good thing, as the feeds I unsubscribed from provide no value to me (or likely anyone else, for that matter).
Coming to this realization made me feel dirty inside. Why did I subscribe in the first place? Is unsubscribing now going to keep me from missing out on something good in the future? Do these people know I’ve unsubscribed and will try to hunt down my unborn children because their FeedBurner FeedCount decreased?
I have no answers to these questions, but I’d like to hear what everyone else thinks. Do you unsubscribe from RSS feeds? When you do unsubscribe, does it make you feel dirty inside?

I honestly do not really use any feed reader services. I use live bookmarks in Firefox instead.

Sometimes I do it remorselessly, but I do feel guilty when I am offloading a feed simply because I cannot keep up with it any longer.

Hey Ryan, I unsubscribe from RSS feeds if I feel the content is degrading over time. However, when I consistently see fresh, new interesting content, I love reading blogs.

Nate, I think that the Google Homepage might be my problem… it can make me feel overwhelmed.

I actually feel good when I unsubscribe from a few RSS feeds - currently there are 231 feeds in my Bloglines account - it’s ridiculous! I’m a feed junkie ;(

Dude, are you paranoid? I just subscribed to your feed then unsubscribed straight away. I built you up and knocked you down. Bet it hurt. Did that make you hate me? Want to “hunt down my unborn children”? Seriously… if it did you’re weird. And I really rubbed it in your face! I mean… ouch!

Yes, yes it did… and for the record, I am weird.
