Will Google Reinstate My AdSense Account?

A few days ago I noticed about 60 clicks to my AdSense account in a short time span that appeared to be invalid, so I notified Google to make sure they knew that it was some sort of fraud. I’ve heard horror stories of people having some random jerkoff have their account disabled, so I wanted to make sure I didn’t fall into the same trap.

Looks like it didn’t work.

A few hours ago I received the following e-mail from Google:

Hello Ryan Parker,

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks and/or impressions
have been generated on the Google ads on your site(s). We have
therefore disabled your Google AdSense account. Please understand that
this was a necessary step to protect the interests of AdWords
advertisers.

As you may know, a publisher’s site may not have invalid clicks or
impressions on any ad(s), including but not limited to clicks and/or
impressions generated by:

- a publisher on his own web pages
- a publisher encouraging others to click on his ads
- automated clicking or surfing programs, or any other deceptive
software
- a publisher altering any portion of the ad code or changing the
layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason

I run AdWords campaigns and obviously hate click fraud, which is why it’s unfortunate that Google has disabled my account.

So, what are the odds of Google reinstating my account?

It all depends on how much they value your account and how high profile you are. I am now diversified enough that losing Google AdSense would hamper me but not kill me.

I’m a very small fish in their sea, I’m sure, so they might just blow me off.

Most of my money comes from other sources, but when you’ve got money coming your way in a few days it sucks when this happens.

Does Google allow you to ask for reinstatement to Adsense? You would think they would be able to identify the type of fraud that was occuring if it wasn’t by that particular site, but I guess not.

John, they allow you to “appeal”, but I think that it really means we closed your account because their was fraud and you’re too small for us to waste time on.

Tragic, but I guess that’s the price paid for being small.

There were cases of people getting their accounts back. However you are probably more likely to win the lottery. I wonder what happens with bigger companies when their users go crazy on the ads.

Some people have gotten their accounts back, but on the other hand, 98% haven’t. I would say try to find the best replacement, and send an appeal. Always expect the worst, and if the worst doesn’t come, all the better.

I got nailed for invalid clicks caused by sources unknown to me a year or so ago. I also tried appealing to get my account back but it didn’t work out. You could always try signing up with a new email and URL.

I guess this also depends on the amount of invalid clicks compared to your total daily clicks. It won’t be logical for you to fake a few clicks when you are making enough anyway.

Yea.. google disabled my adsense account too.
Appealed but it was rejected. Apparently i posed a risk to their advertisers.

I don’t think its really nice as they ban you for life. There is no suspension as such, but any offence will give you the maximum penalty of disablement of the adsense account. Capital Punishment. This is strange for a company which makes money and was from the support of all of us. I would rather prefer that they have a suspension period so as we can learn from our mistakes.

I’m sure google has made mistakes themselves in the past, but their company was not shut down!

The Zero tolerance concept advocated by google is truly special. Whats more, they actually get away with it very well.

Damn if google were the justice department, any small offence would mean the chair. Be it stealing a pack of gum or grabbing an ice cream from a kid.

It’s simple: Google has $100 threshold for making payments. As soon as your balance is getting closer to that threshold they disable your account to keep money that they collected from AdWords customers.

In other words, they get money from AdWords customers, and they suppose to share this money with their AdSense users, but they prefer not to share.

Otherwise… What happens with money collected by AdSense accounts, which were disabled? Do they return this money back to their AdWords customers? - I don’t think so! As a AdWords user I can confirm, that I never get refunds for my ads payments, though big number of those AdSence accounts, which displayed my ads, have been disabled.

I think the odds are very low. When it comes to banned accounts, Google is very unforgiving. They don’t care what happened or why. They just care about removing any potentially risky publishers. They’ve dealt with serious click fraud that has damaged the reputation of their content network.

    39. ATV for Sale said

      on September 23 2009 @ 6:54 pm

Wayene you cannot simply go around the problem. I have tried this and Google somehow connected the dots between my banned account and the new account. If you do this you will still have to avoid connecting your name with the new account. So you still might not be able to run adsense on the website(s) associated with the banned account. If you do, you run the risk of Google eventually withholding a payment.

What alot of competitors will do is click an ad 1,000 times then google will ban them eliminating competition.

At the risk of sounding paranoid anyone can be shut down by a competitor or enemy who dose a CLICK ATTACK, I don’t know if there is any defense for this type of attack….Over 4 years I made $105.83 so I was not using the ad’s to make money and you would think that Google would know that.

There is only one reason Google bans sites. It’s an excuse not to pay them. I earned a lousy $100 over 6 months and they banned me. Other sites claim they make thousands per day (I saw a blog site that claims they make $2,000 per day and I thinks it’s total bs)and yet with all those clicks, there is no fraud. LOL!

Eventually, Google will have a serious challenger and they will pay for their sins. That day is coming sooner than you think my friends.

Yes, they really should take the time to properly investigate each case. They are just looking at automated triggers and making assumptions based on the click data. They don’t stop to think that there are plenty of times when suspicious activity either has a good explanation or there could be someone else causing that problem. Why punish innocent publishers just to save some money on the staff required to look into such issues?

They would rather not take the risk of further damaging the reputation of AdWords. on December 21 2009 @ 8:46 pm

I’m a professional freelance tech support agent, providing everything from help desk to custom software and web development for a diverse and international clientele.

In the last 7 days, after many inquiries about AdSense by various clients, in an effort to be able to answer their questions, I dedicated a whole page on my website to Google AdSense. I included both the Search and the Content elements in my page, along with a relevant disclaimer with regard to the content.

More than one client who reviewed the AdSense Content ads reported unwanted popups appearing on target pages, infinite page-loops, and ‘lock-in’ pages (the kind where you can’t get out of it without closing your browser completely) as consequences of following links that Google fed to my site. In short, every kind of questionable and undesirable practice that Google rabidly demands a publisher not exhibit is exactly what they feed to publishers in their ad links.

As I monitored my first 4 days of AdSense activity, I also noted that almost $1.00 USD per click on the first day trickled downward over the next three days, at a rate commensurate with the raise in traffic my page was seeing and the number of people who were actually clicking on Ads - meaning that when 24 people loaded the page and 4 clicked ads the first day I made $6.00 USD, but by the third day when over 180 had loaded the page and almost 50 had clicked Ads, Google was estimating my day’s earnings at less than $10.00 USD.

Then today a client who wanted to review AdSense for Content before they add it to their own site notified me that they couldn’t see anything under the SearchBar on my AdSense page (at http://www.painter-enterprises.com/google)… and 10 minutes later I got an email notification from Google that my account was suspended for invalid click activity. I also received my PIN today (the last item I needed before I’d be able to receive any payment from Google AdSense at all).

No reason has been given, just ‘invalid click activity.’ I filed an appeal, but after the amount of time it took me to get signed up and implement their Mickey-Mouse quality HTML and Javascript snippets (including 3 days revamping my whole site because their substandard crap can’t function inside an ASP.NET element that runs on the server side), I’m not about to give them more than 48 hours to put me back online.

In brief, I’ve been a rabid Google fan since its inception as a college project, I’ve had a Gmail account since invitations to the service were hard to come by, and from what I’ve seen in this brief interlude with Google AdSense I’m 100% prepared to switch my primary search provider over to Yahoo or Microsoft’s new Bing, and I’m going to start recommending the same to everyone who asks me for my professional opinion.

Oddly enough, a quick Google Search turns up dozens of these incidents, including a small claims victory against Google by another small web-business owner.

I totally agree with Andrew B. Painter. I closely monitored my adsense account along with my google analytics account. I had my site set up for a higher CTR so that I could make more. And my site was in a niche where I was making more per click.

About 2 weeks ago, before I started to super advertise my site, I was getting about $0.75-$3 per click. But about a week ago I would get a flood of traffic, get 50 clicks, and make $10 for the day. And just today I got the letter saying my account was disabled. If you think about it, If Google would have been giving me the $1-$3 per click I would have made $37.50-$150 for that day but they said $10. I was trying to convince myself that maybe people just clicked on the ads that weren’t paying much. But it happened twice in the last week…..

I guess Google doesn’t like it if you have a successful site along with traffic that is actually looking for what is on your site AND ON THE SITES THAT YOUR ADSENSE SHOWS!!!!

      *correction*

If Google would have been giving me the $0.75-$3 per click I would have made $37.50-$150 for that day but they said $10.

if google were the justice department, any small offence would mean the chair. Be it stealing a pack of gum or grabbing an ice cream from a kid.

I wonder what happens with bigger companies when their users go crazy on the ads.
